Boil Water Notice

Dawson residents and water customers must boil their drinking water for the foreseeable future because of a concern about harmful bacteria in the water system, according to a release from the city. A major water leak between 300 and 400 S.Waco  Wednesday afternoon, March 08, 2017 meant the water system had to be shut off for about four hours during repairs. However, the Texas Commissioner on Environmental Quality requires the system to be tested for contaminants after a shut off. “We’re taking action on that now,” said Ronda Franks, city secretary for the City of Dawson. “We had to run a BacT test. As soon as we get the results back that the test was good then we can issue another notice saying they don’t have to boil anymore.” Customers are urged to boil any drinking water, water used for ice or cooking to kill any harmful bacteria or microbes. The water should be brought to a strong boil and then boiled for two minutes. An alternative is to buy bottled water or water from another source. “For the moment, this is what we have to do,” Franks said. “Hopefully, we’ll get the results back very soon.” Customers with questions can call  John Francek (903) 519-9311 or the City Office 254-578-1515.
